BIGS Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl are elected by the students after all candidates (year 11 students only) have presented their manifesto in 5-minute presentations held during the weekly assembly or in the form classes.

Presentations and elections are held at the beginning of the academic year, in term 1, so the Head Girls can commence their duties.

  • The Head Girls will:
  • Be able to feel confident and comfortable talking to and in front of both adults and students.
  • Lead speeches at Open Evenings/Parents Evenings
  • Have good organisational and communication skills and have a mature and thoughtful outlook.
  • Be able to lead assemblies
  • To attend one Governor’s meeting and report on how student voice has had an impact on the school’s planning.
  • Pass on students’ ideas and essentially voice the student body

It is important that the Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl are friendly, approachable and excellent role models for all other students, as it will be their responsibility to show a caring and loving attitude to all year groups. However, they will also need to be authoritative, as it will be their responsibility to uphold and promote the school’s policies, rules and ethos at all times.

The Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl will also be responsible for all other representatives of the school, such as the prefects, student council and anti-bullying ambassadors, and it will be their duty to attend meetings, or receive regular updates from these students.

The Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl must keep a record of any important duties/ responsibilities during their role and must show this record to the Headteacher at least once every month.

The Headteacher can schedule meetings with the Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl whenever it is convenient.
