Ten ways to help your child cope with change for parents

Physical Health and Wellbeing

Physical activity has a huge potential to enhance our wellbeing. It increases self-esteem whilst reducing stress and anxiety. We regularly promote the links between physical and mental health, as such, students are taking part in scheduled High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) sessions each week in their PE lessons. It would be great to see students using these routines on their own or with friends at other times during the week.

The Parallel Young People’s Health Service – (BOLTON NHS )

The Parallel provides a comprehensive general health service, including sexual health services for young people (aged from 11-19 years).

Below are a few suggestions of how you can support your child at home:

  • Reduce screen time after school hours e.g. phones and digital devices
  • Ensure good routines
  • Waking up at a set time
  • Getting dressed for school
  • Going to bed at an appropriate time/ device free wind – down
  • Try to incorporate exercise into their daily routine, even if it is just a short walk
  • Encourage conversations about how your child is feeling
  • Complete the wellbeing journal with your child, for example, complete a daily gratitude activity together.
  • Encourage your child to join school sports extra-curricular activities. A list of what’s available at our school is linked here.

Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)

EBSA is a broad term used to describe a young person who struggles significantly in attending school due to heightened levels of emotions such as anxiety.  This can result in significant absence from school and impacts a young person’s learning, relationships and well-being.

If you are concerned your child is emotionally based school avoiding get in touch with the school to share your concerns. Our school DSL is Mrs Sadia Waseem, email: Sadia.Waseem@boltonislamicgirlsschool.org.uk.
