It is estimated that there are more than 3 million people living with cancer in the UK. On average someone is diagnosed with cancer at least every 90 seconds. Each year, around 167,000 people die from cancer, an average of 460 people every day in the UK alone.
It is also estimated around one in four (25%) people with cancer are living with the long-term consequences of cancer or its treatment (reference vii).
Macmillan services have reached and supported an estimated 2.3 million people affected by cancer so far.
A majority of our school staff and students have been affected by someone diagnosed with cancer and it is a disease that can affect anyone.
